Glad to see you around again too! And yes, the traveler's wife's lot is very similar to the startup wife. The majority of my "been there done that, have another glass of wine and bitch away" friends have husbands who travel, but are not necessarily running a startup. Same issues for the most part...

See? He can be very sweet! Mwah! Does this mean I can steal some of your frequent flyer miles to upgrade when I head to Texas (another perk of both the startup wife and the traveler's wife ;-) )

To My Startup Wife,

When I first read this, I didn't know what to think, or what to say. Do I laugh? Do I cry? Do I run home with my tail between my legs? Then I thought about it and realized there is only one thing to say. One word, really. Something i probably should have said earlier and more often. And that is, simply, "Thanks."

Thanks for dealing with phone calls while on vacations and the constant blackberry checking. Thanks for dealing with 3 feet of water in the basement while I was stuck on a Tarmac. Thanks for shoveling the driveway when I was stuck in the office. Thanks for making sure the kids remembered who I was. Thanks whopping me upside the head when I needed it. Thanks for being a sounding board to my ideas.

The list could go on. But, thanks for being my rock.

Love,
Your Startup Hubby

I was not a Startup Wife, but I was a Traveling (Traveler's?) Wife for a long time. I think a lot of women go into marriage with unrealistic expectations, especially if they are attracted to successful and/or ambitious men. Successful and ambitious men do NOT make their wives the center of their lives!

This is great advice from someone who has been there. I think some things can only be learned from experience though--not all of it makes complete sense until you've been through it.

I found, as a Traveling Wife, that when the hubby is suddenly home all the time again, you are once again facing a new set of challenges as you get used to each other's presence again.

Glad to see you blogging again!

Lol! You poor woman! I decided to not do holiday knitting because it is just setting myself up for failure. Heck I want to finish a sweater for my newborn and she is sabotaging me by crying every time I pick up the wip to knit a bit on it.

I never attempt holiday knits. It's too stressful. And I have to believe that people would be understanding. But by all means, go for bulky or novelty-yarn or felted stuff if that appeals.

I am glad you guys are ok and made it through relatively unscathed.

School starts tomorrow for us and I am beyond excited. This has been a tough summer for us because all of the many exciting things I had planned fizzled out as my pregnancy advanced, I just did not have the energy to do a whole lot.

I too am up for a small knit along. With an infant arriving in about two weeks I am not going to have an over abundance of knitting time but will be able to manage some.
